Addison Trail student earns perfect score on ACT

Kannon Nelms, who will be a senior at Addison Trail this fall, has earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

According to www.actstudent.org, on average, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earns a score of 36. The ACT is a national college admissions exam that consists of subject-area tests in math, English, reading and science. Among test-takers in the high school graduating class of 2014, only 1,407 of nearly 1.85 million students earned a composite score of 36.

Nelms said he studied with friends to prepare for the exam and couldn’t believe he received a perfect score.

“It was amazing – I was speechless!” Nelms said of his reaction when he learned he earned a 36 on the test. “It’s incredible to be able to reach this level of success. I really appreciate all the support and congratulations I’ve received, as well as the pride that comes with being part of this accomplishment.”

Nelms is a member of Addison Trail’s National Honor Society, DECA Team and Student Council. He also is Co-captain of the Addison Trail Boys Volleyball Team and is working to earn his Eagle Scout status. He thanks the Addison Trail staff members for their encouragement and guidance.

“The teachers here are awesome,” Nelms said. “They always take every learning opportunity available to help us succeed.”
