Willowbrook junior earns perfect score on ACT

Willowbrook junior Sally Nijim has earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

According to http://www.actstudent.org/, on average, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earns a score of 36. The ACT is a national college admissions exam that consists of subject-area tests in math, English, reading and science. Among test-takers in the high school graduating class of 2014, only 1,407 of nearly 1.85 million students earned a composite score of 36.

Nijim said the practice exams at Willowbrook helped prepare her for the ACT, and she worked hard to be successful. But she never imagined she would reach the highest score possible.

“I’m excited to give back to Willowbrook and the community through this achievement,” Nijim said. “This accomplishment showcases the academic rigor of Willowbrook.”

Nijim is a member of Willowbrook’s Math Team, Science Olympiad, Scholastic Bowl, Model United Nations, the Principal’s Leadership Team and a variety of academic honor societies. She plans to major in biology and chemistry and pursue a career as a scientist or a professor. She thanks the Willowbrook staff members for their support and guidance.

“The faculty and teachers here are incredible,” Nijim said. “They teach more than books – they go above and beyond to help you.”

Nijim also offered advice for younger students looking to achieve their goals.

“In the face of obstacles, it’s important to keep trying,” she said. “You can accomplish anything you want, if you set your mind to it.”
