District 88 students learn about road safety through ‘Teens and Trucks’ program

On May 12 and 13, professional semitrailer drivers spoke to District 88 students at Addison Trail and Willowbrook during a program called “Teens and Trucks.”

The event was hosted by the Geneva and Joliet offices of ProDrivers to educate young drivers about the vision impediments truck drivers face on the road. The presentation featured a classroom safety demonstration and an outdoor demonstration, where students were able to sit inside a semitrailer and experience what it’s like to be behind the wheel of a truck. They were given the chance to view from a truck driver's perspective what it's like to drive a large vehicle.

"'Teens and Trucks' is one of the best programs we can present to young motorists,” ProDrivers Director of Safety Jim Smith said on the company’s website. “With increasing technology inside vehicles, teens are faced with more distractions than ever before. We are very proud to be able to be a part of such an important initiative that could not only save the lives of teens, but help reduce accidents overall. This information will help these kids and everyone involved to share the roads safely."
