Addison Trail hosts 5th annual West Suburban Conference Sports Spectacular

On May 5, Addison Trail hosted the 5th annual West Suburban Conference Sports Spectacular.

During the event, nearly 500 students with special needs filled Addison Trail’s field house, gyms and black box studio theatre. The students were from 14 schools in the West Suburban Conference, and they participated in track and field events and a basketball tournament and also enjoyed moon jumps and karaoke.

The event began with a walk around the track to introduce the students, as well as the singing of the National Anthem by Addison Trail senior Dustin Youngren. To see Youngren’s performance, go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJy9C-b_8kQ

The Sports Spectacular was founded in 1994 by a group of West Suburban Conference athletic directors. Addison Trail physical education teacher Sheri D’Ambrose wanted to continue the event to offer students an atmosphere of fun.

D’Ambrose said it took about 100 volunteers (including the Addison Trail maintenance staff) and donations from local businesses to make the event a success. About 112 pizzas were donated from Addison pizzerias and restaurants.
