Below are highlights from the April 27 District 88 Board of Education meeting.

Tribute to the late Board member Mark Johnson

Family members of the late District 88 Board member Mark Johnson (including his wife, Phyllis, holding the U.S. flag) honor and celebrate Johnson's 15 years of service to the Board at a tribute that took place during the April 27 Board meeting. Johnson passed away on Dec. 13, 2014. Also pictured are former and current District 88 Board members, along with former and current administrators.

Resolutions from the villages of Villa Park, Addison and Lombard, the Illinois 99th Assembly Senate, the Illinois 99th Assembly House of Representatives and District 88 were presented to Johnson’s wife, Phyllis, and their children (Kristin Egan, Melissa Bills, Stephanie DiLillo and Bethany Chalmers). Johnson’s family also was presented with a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol on March 9, 2015, and the Congressional Record from the U.S. House of Representatives.

Former District 88 Board members Bob Bauers, Ron DeFalco, Jose DeLeon, Jim Luebker and Bob Flemming, as well as former Superintendent Steve Humphrey and Pastor Stephen Swanson, also were present.

Amendment to the 2014-15 school year calendar
The Board approved amending the 2014-15 school year calendar to reflect the three emergency days used on Jan. 7 and 8 and Feb. 2 due to inclement weather. The district will extend the school year and make up those days on Friday, June 5, Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9.

Addison Trail Principal position update
District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton gave the Board an update on the status of hiring a new Addison Trail Principal. The candidates have been interviewed, and a recommendation will be presented to the Board during the May 4 Board of Education meeting. Current Addison Trail Principal Adam Cibulka will transition to the role of Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment at the end of the school year and will move to the District 88 Office.
