On March 9, Addison Trail Dean Keith Marston, social studies teacher Mario Fernandez and Guidance Counselor Shane Cole presented during the College Board Conference in New Orleans.
Their presentation was titled “Building Bridges (The Latino Community and the American School System)” and offered an in-depth look at the wraparound services provided at Addison Trail for Latino students, who comprise 58 percent of the school’s student population. The session provided an inside look into the programs and initiatives that have been successful at Addison Trail and the structure and systems that are in place to support those successes. The topic was aligned to the theme of the conference, which was Prepárate™ Educating Latinos for the Future of America.
Services and programs at Addison Trail include community outreach, social-emotional outreach, student groups, a focus on college and career, after-school tutoring and professional development opportunities.
