Illinois Gov. Rauner visits Addison Trail

On April 6, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner visited Addison Trail as part of his six-day "Illinois Turnaround Tour." It was his first visit to a DuPage County school since his inauguration.

During his tour, Rauner is sharing the details of his four-year "turnaround" agenda to improve economic growth, increase student success and career opportunities, empower taxpayers and reform government.

Addison Trail musicians lined the hall and played as Rauner entered the school. He was then presented with Addison Trail and District 88 memorabilia, met with a group of Advanced Placement (AP)/college-level government students and toured the building as District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton and Addison Trail Principal Adam Cibulka shared successes and highlights of the district. Rauner stopped to wave hello to a crowd of cheering students in the cafeteria and spoke with an AP economics class and a special education class. He later sat down with Addison Trail and District 88 administrators, staff members and Board of Education members to discuss the challenges facing public education in Illinois.

“It was an honor and a tremendous opportunity to have Gov. Rauner visit our school,” Cibulka said. “He complimented our students and staff on the great work that has been done and continues to be done at Addison Trail to ensure a successful future for all of our Blazers."

Helton agreed.

"It was a great way to share and celebrate the successes and accomplishments of District 88, as well as the great work that goes on in our classrooms and beyond each and every day," he said.
