District 88 hosts Spanish-themed fundraiser to benefit students

On Nov. 1, more than 400 people filled the cafeteria and commons area at Addison Trail for a special celebration.

The event, called Kermes (meaning “carnival”), raised about $3,700 that will go toward scholarships for students who are members of Addison Trail’s Interact Club.

Proceeds also will benefit District 88 students who will participate in a trip to Spain this spring. Students had to apply to participate in that trip and went through a rigorous selection process. Money raised from Kermes will help defray the costs of travel for the students.

Kermes embraced the Spanish culture with authentic food, live entertainment (including a disc jockey and dance performances by a group called Quetzalli) and children’s activities.

Along with the Kermes event, students traveling to Spain are selling $10 Jet Brite Car Wash gift cards. More than 50 percent of the sale goes to the students, and the cards can be used like cash at any Jet Brite Car Wash, including the Addison and Villa Park locations. Tickets can be bought from any student participating in the Spain trip, or by contacting District 88 Assistant Superintendent Jean Barbanente at jbarbanente@dupage88.net or 630-530-3984.
