District 88 goes ‘pink’ for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

When walking into Addison Trail and Willowbrook this month, you’ll notice the color “pink” fills the halls.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and both schools have hosted and will continue to host events to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research.

Addison Trail
This is the sixth year Addison Trail has joined this cause. The Addison Trail Orchesis Team, Blazettes, LADIES, Cheerleading Team and Girls Volleyball Team have come together to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research. The school participated in a Volley for the Cure volleyball game at Willowbrook, hosted its third annual Go Pink or Go Home Walk (which also included a Go Pink Dinner this year to bring the participating teams together), sold treats and other “pink” items and hosted a Crazy Pink Day. During tonight’s football game against Proviso East, the school invites everyone to wear pink for a “Pink Out.” Students and staff also are encouraged to wear pink every Friday throughout October. Check the Nov. 7 District 88 Newsletter to see how much money Addison Trail raised from these efforts.

Willowbrook
This is the third year Willowbrook has joined this cause. The school hosted a Volley for the Cure volleyball game against Addison Trail, sold “pink” T-shirts and offered a “Dress Down Day,” where staff members could donate money to wear casual clothing. During the Oct. 17 football game against Leyden, the school invites everyone to wear pink for a “Pink Out.” In support of that game, students will decorate the halls and the football stadium in pink. Check the Nov. 7 District 88 Newsletter to see how much money Willowbrook raised from these efforts. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life of District 88 All Youth event in March.
