Addison Trail students enjoy alternative spring break experiences

District 88’s spring break took place from March 29 to April 6, and many Addison Trail students traveled abroad and enjoyed an alternative spring break experience.

Sophomore Alex Neri, freshman Dimitri Giannopoulos, sophomore Lia Bouzarelos-Kopta, junior Maria Bouzarelos-Kopta, senior Constance Barkoulies, freshman Dean Barkoulies, sophomore Maria Koulogeorgas and senior George Koulogeorgas planted about 30 trees and worked on landscaping at All Saints Greek Orthodox Monastery in Calverton, NY. They also visited historical sites in the area.

And from April 1 to 4, 23 Addison Trail students traveled to New York, where they enjoyed two Broadway musicals (“Newsies” and “Bullets Over Broadway”); workshops with theatre professionals; and tours of Radio City Music Hall, The Juilliard School, New Amsterdam Theatre and the Sept. 11 Memorial (guided by a Sept. 11 survivor and a Sept. 11 firefighter). Addison Trail Theatre Director Anna Jakubka said students had to apply to participate in the trip, and the application process involved writing three essays, showing a desire to pursue the performing arts in the future and maintaining a strong GPA. She added traveling abroad is critical for students’ education, and the highlight of the trip was “watching the students experience New York for the first time and seeing their reactions.”

Students who traveled to New York are junior Michael Amadeo, senior Francesco Bondi, senior Ryan Domino, senior Kala Keller, senior Krystina Liosatos, senior Megan Lobner, senior Angel Loizzo, senior Marina Maric, junior Gabriella Morrone, senior Matt Neuman, junior Dakota Noel, senior Maggie O'Brien, senior Anne Pacilli, senior Morgan Pirtle, senior Emily Quick, junior Andrianna Rae, senior Alex Ramirez, senior Emily Rosenquist, senior Julia Rowley, senior Maeve Schmitt, senior Brenda Sypolt, junior Hannah Yurek and senior Brent Yurek.
