Addison Trail hosts Career Week for students

From Dec. 9 to 13, the Addison Trail Guidance Department hosted Career Week, where activities and field trips took place to give students firsthand experience about potential occupations.

Field trips included visits to McDonald’s corporate offices in Oak Brook, Glen Oaks Hospital, Universal Technical Institute, Environmental Technical Institute, Pivot Point, Paul Mitchell, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.

On Dec. 10, more than 150 senior students participated in Mock Interviews, where they were interviewed by community volunteers in a formal matter and given feedback on their interview.

Also during the week, students were able to participate in career presentations. A representative from Chamberlain College spoke with students about nursing, Illinois Institute of Technology offered a presentation called “Technology, Innovation and You” and a professional in the engineering field spoke with students about that industry.

"We believe Career Week is important because we can give attention to learning about careers, and students can explore and find out firsthand about a number of careers," said Kevin Redding, Guidance Director at Addison Trail. "If students can get a feel for what they want to do in their future, it will help them make decisions on post-secondary options."
Along with Career Week, Addison Trail will continue to offer job-shadowing field trips throughout the school year, so students can receive firsthand education about various careers.
