Willowbrook celebrates Homecoming

On Oct. 2, the Willowbrook junior and senior girls faced off on the field during a powder-puff football game.

The seniors won 8-6. The game took place as part of Willowbrook’s Homecoming celebration. This year’s Homecoming theme is Neon Nights.

On Oct. 4, Willowbrook celebrated Homecoming with a pep assembly and a football game. The fun continued on Oct. 5 with a dance. Those events followed this year’s Homecoming theme of Neon Nights.

Performances during the pep assembly included the Willowbrook Cheerleaders, Poms, Drum Line, Steppers, Color Guard, Concert Choir and a special guy-girl performance from the Cheerleaders. Most of the performances incorporated bright colors or glow-in-the-dark accessories.

In between performances, student finalists from the week’s activities took center stage and competed against the other classes. Some of those competitions included a three-legged race, a water balloon toss, a Hula-Hoop contest and a pie eating contest.

Head Football Coach Nick Hildreth addressed the students and encouraged them to attend the Homecoming football game against Proviso East. He then awarded the class of 2014 the powder-puff football trophy from their game against the juniors on Oct. 2.

At the end of the assembly, Student Council crowned the 2013 Homecoming King and Queen of each class.

Members of the 2013 Homecoming Court are:

  • Freshmen Gloria Vega and Casey King
  • Sophomores Veronica Catanese and Joey Ernst
  • Juniors Olivia Baumann and John Halloran
  • Seniors Perla Hernandez and Kevin Bouchard

Nearly 1,000 students attended the Homecoming dance, which included a disc jockey and catering by the student-run Brook Catering Co.
