During the May 9 District 88 Board of Education meeting, Willowbrook senior Eric Veal Jr. provided an update from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Student Advisory Council (SAC).
Veal is the 2021-22 President of that group, and members provide ISBE with student perspectives and concerns on the state’s education policies. The main focus areas for the 2021-22 school year are to develop ways to respond to the achievement gap that has widened because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic; create a diversity, equity and inclusion framework; ensure the safety and emotional well-being of students; and rethink and strengthen teacher recruitment.
