Instructional Showcase: A look inside the District 88 Career and Technical Education (CTE) departments

District 88 is excited to launch a new Remote Learning Instructional Showcase.

During Board of Education meetings, the district will present a department to highlight the amazing work being done by students and staff. This school year is challenging because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, but District 88 pupils and teachers continue to reach tremendous levels of success – even in a Remote Learning environment. Staff members are implementing new and creative ways to connect with, care for and engage students to accomplish the district’s mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement.

During the Oct. 19 Board meeting, the Remote Learning Instructional Showcase featured the Addison Trail and Willowbrook Career and Technical Education (CTE) departments. Addison Trail CTE Department Head Jennifer Kowalski and Willowbrook CTE Department Head Mary Barney shared how teachers are supporting students and creating a classroom experience while in a virtual environment through:

  • Sending supply kits home for students in fashion design, culinary and industry and technology courses

  • Sending cameras home for students in photography courses

  • Recording lessons and videos for preschool classes

  • Providing software, programs and virtual desktop interface for students to access at home

  • Providing opportunities for students to earn certifications and dual credits in various CTE areas
