District 88 recognizes Public Schools Week

Feb. 24 to 28 is a special time in education. District 88 will join multiple education organizations in recognizing Public Schools Week.

According to https://www.nsba.org/Public-Schools-Week, http://lovepubliceducation.org/publicschoolproud and www.publicschoolsweek2020.com, public schools educate nine out of 10 students in the U.S. – more than 50 million – regardless of ability, race, wealth, language, religion or country of origin, to prepare them for future endeavors. The week honors those students, plus 3.2 million teachers and hundreds of thousands of specialists, administrators and support staff working in public schools. It is a national celebration to highlight the great things happening in U.S. public schools and to bring attention to the critical issues facing schools, students and educators.

As Superintendent of a public high school district, I couldn’t be more proud of the work that goes on in our buildings. We have nearly 4,000 students and 852 employees (285 of whom are teachers). Each and every day, our staff goes above and beyond to build positive futures for each and every student and to help accomplish our mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement.

Our students continue to receive state and national recognition in academics, athletics and extracurricular activities, and we know those successes are possible because of our knowledgeable Board of Education members, caring staff members, involved parents/guardians, hardworking students and engaged community members.

I have worked in public education for more than 30 years and have served as a classroom teacher, a varsity coach, a dean of students, an assistant principal and a principal. I am #PublicSchoolProud, and I thank you for your continued support of District 88.
