Willowbrook alumna to portray cooking icon Julia Child in upcoming opera

On Feb. 16 and 17, Willowbrook alumna Catherine Cook (class of 1981) will portray Julia Child in “Bon Appétit” as part of Opera Parallèle’s fundraiser at Hayes Street Grill in San Francisco. For more information about the show, go to https://tinyurl.com/sharmnf.

According to https://www.pbs.org, “Julia Child was a beloved American icon, who pioneered an entire genre of cooking shows and taught a generation of food lovers that cooking can be easy and enjoyable.”

Cook received Willowbrook’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017. Her accomplishments include:

  • Leading roles and soloist in Willowbrook Theatre productions and choir concerts
  • 1st place in local voice competitions
  • Young Alumni Award from Millikin University
  • Outstanding Alumni Recognition from Wichita State University
  • National winner of Metropolitan Opera Competition in New York
  • Adler Fellowship/Apprentice Artist at San Francisco Opera
  • Currently holds the “Frederica Von Stade Distinguished Chair in Voice” at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she has been a professor for more than 10 years
