WHAT IS THE 2020 CENSUS?
The Census is mandated by the Constitution and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency. The 2020 Census counts the population in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands). See the video below for more details.

WHY COMPLETE THE 2020 CENSUS?
The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. The results are used to determine how much funding local communities receive for key public services and how many seats each state gets in Congress. State and local officials also use census counts to draw boundaries for congressional, state legislative and school districts. See the video below for more details.

  • Your response matters. The census can shape many aspects of your community such as health clinics, fire departments, schools and roads.

  • Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year.

  • The results determine how many seats in Congress each state gets.

  • While you are required by law to participate, the U.S. Census Bureau also is required by law to protect your answers. Your responses are used only to produce statistics. The Census Bureau does not disclose any personal information. Read more about how the Census Bureau protects your data at https://2020census.gov/en/data-protection.html.
