Addison Trail students recently had an opportunity to learn about clubs and activities offered at the school during Addison Trail’s annual Student Activity Fair. That event took place during lunch periods on Sept. 4 this year.

The Activity Fair is an event where club sponsors and leaders exhibit their information to students and encourage them to join. The fair was attended by all grade levels, and students found several new options to be involved in their school.

“I want to join Psychology Club, Art Club, Student Council and Theatre,” said freshman Eva Ramos. “We have a large variety to choose from.”

The event showcased about 20 clubs, which transformed the school’s commons area from a place for students to chat during lunch to a huge array of colorful posters and interactive displays. Club sponsors and student leaders set up posters, passed out flyers and enthusiastically encouraged pupils to stop by and find out what their group is all about.

Club members were able to share their passion and experiences with fellow Blazers who visited their tables.

“I am here with Science Club, and I also do Math Team,” said freshman Sean Mackey, who promoted Science Club with science teacher Carolyn Erwin. “It’s important to see the options we offer.”

Ramos agreed the fair is an essential event.

“It’s important for people to learn about clubs they might not have known about,” she said.

With its large number of clubs, Addison Trail’s goal is to have something for everyone. Students also have the opportunity to create their own club if they feel there is something the school is missing. For more information, go to www.dupage88.net/ATStudentActivities.

Blazers encouraged freshmen to take advantage of the opportunities.

“I think students should try new things out, try and get out of their comfort zone and try to get involved, either in school sports or clubs,” said sophomore Julissa Cobos.

Classmates Sara Bojczuk and Jazmin Martinez agreed.

“It’s important to get involved in high school, because (the experience) teaches you valuable skills,” Bojczuk said. “And I love meeting new people.”

Martinez shared Bojczuk’s positive attitude toward meeting others.

“It’s really good for college, and you make so many amazing friends,” she said. “Overall, you have a great time!”

Addison Trail will continue to look for ways to get more students engaged in the school and show their Blazer Pride by taking part in events.
