District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton speaks with representatives from the Bureau of Education of Shanghai Huangpu District Delegation, who visited District 88 on June 20.

On June 20, District 88 welcomed visitors from the Bureau of Education of Shanghai Huangpu District Delegation.

Five representatives came to District 88 to learn about the U.S. education system, in particular the art and science curriculum. The delegates met with District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton and District 88 Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Dr. Adam Cibulka and discussed the district’s updated Strategic Plan, which reflects a focus on the whole student, with an emphasis on cultural competency and culturally responsive classrooms to ensure students are college, career and world ready (read more at http://www.dupage88.net/StrategicPlan2018). Helton and Cibulka also shared information about the Illinois School Report Card results, staffing structure and data programs used to measure/analyze student performance.

The stop at District 88 was part of the group’s four-day, civic-minded visit to the Chicago area. The visit was coordinated by the 21st Century Institute in Oak Brook, which was founded in the 1990s with the goal of designing, developing and delivering exchange programs between China and the U.S. in areas such as economics, public administration, education and other government roles.
