Department Chair: Course Title: Driver Education and Community First Aid #P2175 Course Rational: Safety is the major driving force behind a semester of study in Driver Education and Community First Aid. Since the Highway Transportation System plays such an important roll in our society, a study of Driver Education will be vital for one's own personal safety and the safety of others. Even if one never takes on the responsibility of driving, an awareness of driving and traffic hazards will only improve one's safety conscientiousness. In the event of an accident or tragedy, it may be that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) of First Aid training will save someone's life. Often, the first moment after a tragedy and before paramedics arrive are critical to life. Training in CPR and First Aid will give students the knowledge and skills needed to save a life or prevent further damage. The life saved will very likely be that of a loved one or perhaps your own. Two thirds of the course will be in Driver Education. The main focus will be to prepare students for the Behind The Wheel phase of Driver Education. The Student needs to change the way he or she thinks and observes from that of a passenger to that of a driver. A knowledge of basic driving skills, an awareness of how drugs and alcohol effect the physical condition of a driver and the importance of wearing safety belts will be stressed. In the Community First Aid phase students will be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge gained in CPR and First Aid. Data for Your Information:
