On Sept. 28, 12 Willowbrook students participated in Chamberlain Group (CGI)’s ONETeam Cares STEAM Day in Oak Brook. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.

Fifty students from four public, private and charter high schools attended the event, which took place to empower the next generation of engineers, creators, inventors and leaders in the arts and sciences. The day provided a fun and interactive educational experience outside of the classroom, where participants were able to see firsthand technology and innovation at work and as a career path with inspirational talks provided by CGI leaders. They were able to interact and connect with engineering professionals, as well as other students throughout the Chicago area who are passionate about STEAM.

Students worked with software, electrical and mechanical engineers to learn about the process of designing, manufacturing and improving garage door openers. Students experimented with changing the color of LEDs, writing code for an app to change the brightness of LEDs and how CGI is using 3D printers to make prototypes of future garage door opener features.
