Counseling Corner: Addison Trail Guidance Department offers summer-break tips for students, shares summer hours

Addison Trail Counselors will be available to meet with students and parents/guardians during the summer months regarding a number of topics, including 2018-19 schedules and college, career and four-year planning.

The Addison Trail Guidance Department also offers the following tips for students during summer break to help them prepare for the 2018-19 school year.

  • If you are enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP)/college-level course, make sure you get your summer work. The Guidance Office will have extra copies of work you haven’t received. We encourage students to get started as soon as possible – don’t wait until the end of summer break to complete these assignments.

  • If you received an incomplete and need to make up a final exam, contact the Guidance Office to schedule a time to complete the assessment.

  • For members of the class of 2019, build your wish list of colleges. Visit each college’s website to see when the application will open. If you have a chance, go to a college campus during summer vacation.

  • For members of the class of 2019, update your résumé, and research sample college-application essay questions to help you get ready.

  • For all students, summer is a time to rest and relax. However, take some time to pick up a book of your leisure and read to help you stay in tune with your studies.
