On Jan. 10, 12 Willowbrook alumni spoke with Willowbrook students about dual-credit and Advanced Placement (AP)/college-level courses.

The “Advanced Coursework Lunch and Learn” was hosted by the Guidance Department to provide freshmen, sophomores and juniors with an opportunity to ask questions and hear firsthand from fellow Warriors what to expect with AP and dual-credit classes, as well as the benefits of completing college-level coursework while in high school.

The presenters shared their experiences of taking AP courses and said those classes prepared them for the workload in college and offered them a chance to earn college credit, which in turn allowed them to advance quicker and save money. They also provided advice with regard to time management and study skills. The alumni added high school is a great time to complete higher-level academic work, as supports are in place to assist students. Lastly, they said taking AP classes doesn’t mean there won’t be time to participate in other activities and enjoy a social life.
