New ‘State of District 88’ video segment online now

On Oct. 24, District 88 filmed its bimonthly video segment called “The State of District 88.”

The district partners with Addison Community Television (ACTV) to film the show, which highlights student successes and important information about the district. The current segment features:

  • An interview with members of the Willowbrook Special Olympics Volleyball Traditional Team (pictured above), which recently made school history by becoming the first volleyball team at Willowbrook to qualify for the Special Olympics Illinois Fall Games. That event will take place on Oct. 28 and 29 at Harlem High School in Machesney Park.

  • An interview with Willowbrook senior Jack Jessen (pictured above, right) and Addison Trail junior Guillermo Juarez (pictured above, left), who recently competed in the USA Wrestling U.S. Marine Corps Cadet & Junior National Championships. Jessen won the 182-pound Cadet Greco-Roman U.S. Marine Corps National Championship and also earned 2nd place in the Cadet Freestyle National Championship. Juarez competed in the 94-pound Cadet Greco-Roman U.S. Marine Corps National Championship and earned All-American honors. He is coached by Addison Trail alumna Veronica Carlson (pictured above with Juarez), who competed for a spot on the 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic women's wrestling teams.

  • An interview with District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton; Willowbrook Principal Dr. Daniel Krause; Addison Trail Principal Michael Bolden; and District 88 Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Dr. Adam Cibulka about the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and Senate Bill 1947. ESSA is a law that was passed in December 2015 that reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and replaces No Child Left Behind (NCLB). In late August, the state approved Senate Bill 1947, a new school funding law that looks to provide a comprehensive solution to inadequacy and inequity in education funding throughout Illinois.
