Willowbrook senior Elijah Rochel has been selected to play in the Illinois High School Shrine Game, an All-Star High School Football Game that benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children - Chicago.
According to http://ilshrinegame.com, “In 1975, the Bloomington Shrine Club partnered with the Illinois Coaches Association to (host) the first … Illinois High School Football All-Star Game.” This year’s game will take place on June 18 at Tucci Stadium on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University.
The goal of the event is to have 88 all-star football players who are seniors play in this annual game to represent the Illinois Coaches Association and to help support the mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patient's ability to pay.
To be selected for the Illinois High School Shrine Game, players must be nominated by their football coach, and their application is evaluated by the Illinois Coaches Association.
