Counseling Corner: Willowbrook Guidance Department hosts events to guide senior students through the college application and decision process

On Aug. 26, the Willowbrook Guidance Department met with senior students to discuss the college application and decision process.

On Aug. 27, counselors met with senior parents to review that process and to discuss post-high school options. Also on that day, counselors presented a seminar during Warrior Time on how to apply to highly selective colleges and universities.

Students also will meet individually with their counselor to complete a Senior Interview. During that meeting, counselors will review each student’s progress toward graduation, as well as post-high school plans.

To further assist students with completing college applications, counselors will host the following seminars during Warrior Time:

  • Common Application: Sept. 2
  • College of DuPage (COD): Sept. 4
  • Drop-in Assistance: Every Wednesday from Sept. 9 to Nov. 11, counselors will be available during Warrior Time in the College and Career Center to assist students with completing their applications, to provide Naviance assistance, to offer help with searching for financial aid and scholarships and to answer students’ questions.

Students also can get more information about colleges of interest through:

  • Meeting with college representatives in the College and Career Center: Students can view the list of representatives who will visit Willowbrook and sign up in Naviance.
  • Going on college-visit field trips and visiting college campuses: Seniors are allowed two excused college-visit days.
  • Attending College Fairs:
