Willowbrook welcomes new School Resource Officer

For Villa Park Police Department K9 Officer Bryan Hruby, working in law enforcement is a family business. His grandfather, father and brother are all in that field, and Hruby has been with the Villa Park Police Department for nearly 14 years.

He’s now bringing his expertise to Willowbrook as the new School Resource Officer. Hruby succeeds Sonia Soto, who served in that position since 2013. Hruby began his new role on May 26.

“I’m excited to serve as a role model for the students who need one and to show them and everyone else police work can be positive,” Hruby said. “I want to help the kids own up to and correct their mistakes and show them how they can grow and move on from those missteps.”

Hruby said he remembers the positive influence his high school Resource Officer had on his life, and he wants to be that person for Willowbrook. He’s familiar with Willowbrook through working at athletic events and other activities, as well as coordinating school canine searches.

“I’m looking forward to having more social interaction with the students and staff and developing a bond with them,” Hruby said. “I know there will be daily challenges, but my goal is to make sure everything is safe, while still having a good time with the kids, staff and community members.”

Willowbrook Principal Dan Krause said the school is thrilled to partner with Hruby.

“Our No. 1 priority is the safety and security of our students and staff, and the School Resource Officer position is one more way for us to ensure the well-being of everyone in our building,” Krause said. “We look forward to working with Hruby and continuing a tremendous partnership with the Villa Park Police Department.”
