Willowbrook celebrates 9th Annual LM5K Family Run/Walk

On June 20, District 88 students, parents/guardians, staff members and community members put on their running shoes and joined the 9th Annual LM5K Family Run/Walk at Willowbrook.

The event takes place annually to remember Willowbrook alumna Lauren Kiefer, who was taken far too soon on Dec. 25, 2006. About 250 runners participated in the event, and nearly 200 volunteers helped with the race. The race supports the Lauren Kiefer Memorial Foundation Inc., which raised about $20,000 this year.

The foundation provides funds for local families and nonprofit groups, including York Center Food Pantry and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The foundation also provides scholarships for Willowbrook seniors. This year’s scholarship recipients are Brooke Bimber, Jessica Cookingham, Sarah Dvorak and Don Marcello.
