Willowbrook students participate in reading program to mentor second-graders

On Nov. 20, three Willowbrook students went to Stella May Swartz School (part of Salt Creek School District 48) to read to a second-grade class.

Willowbrook sophomore Freddie Clay, sophomore Niecko Fletcher and junior Giovanni Hudson participated in the event to mentor the younger students. They are members of W.A.R.R.I.O.R.S., a mentoring program for black male students at Willowbrook. W.A.R.R.I.O.R.S. stands for Winning Attitudes Resulting in Resiliency and the Independence to Overcome and Realize my Self-worth.

LeVar Ammons, sponsor of W.A.R.R.I.O.R.S., said he looks forward to expanding the reading project to include more classes at Stella May Swartz School.
