Counseling Corner: Willowbrook Guidance and Counseling Department helps seniors navigate the college application and decision process

The Willowbrook Guidance and Counseling Department met with senior students on Aug. 27 to discuss the college application and decision process.

On Aug. 28, counselors met with senior parents to review the process and discuss post-high school options. Students also will meet individually with their counselor to complete a senior interview. During that meeting, counselors will review each student’s progress toward graduation and post-high school plans.

To further assist students with completing applications, counselors will host the following seminars during Warrior Time:

  • Highly Selective Colleges and Universities: Sept. 2
  • Common Application: Sept. 3
  • College of DuPage (COD): Sept. 5
  • Drop-in Assistance: Every Wednesday (Sept. 10 through Nov. 14), counselors will be available during Warrior Time in the College and Career Center to assist students with completing their applications, to provide Naviance assistance, to provide financial aid- and scholarship-search assistance and to answer questions students might have.

Students also can get more information about colleges of interest by:

  • Meeting with college representatives in the College and Career Center: Students can see the list of schools and sign up on Naviance
  • College-visit field trips and visiting college campuses: Seniors are allowed two excused college-visit days
  • Attending College Fairs:
