District 88 ready for another great school year in 2014-15

District 88 is gearing up for another great school year!

To ensure a smooth transition back to school, the district hosted several events for staff and community leaders.

District alignment
This year, District 88 will continue its focus on aligning curriculum and assessments in all content areas at Addison Trail and Willowbrook. On Aug. 6, district department chairs came together with administrators to collaborate and expand on that work. During the workshop, District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton welcomed the staff and thanked them for their continuous passion and dedication.

District initiatives and areas of focus also were discussed, which include:

  • Continuing to align curriculum and assessments to the new Common Core State Standards. Those new standards were created to increase rigor in English and math, which will carry over into all subjects; to develop consistent learning expectations for all students; and to implement higher-level, clearer and deeper real-life learning to prepare students for college and career. For more information about the Common Core State Standards, go to http://commoncoreil.org. District 88 also will continue to align with its feeder districts and colleges/universities to ensure students have a smooth transition to and from District 88.
  • Continuing to implement interventions and strategies to close the achievement gap among student groups.
  • Continuing to raise expectations for all students.
  • Continuing to offer a comprehensive school environment that challenges and supports students and meets the district’s mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement.
  • Continuing to implement best practices with technology to ensure students are prepared with 21st-century technology skills.
  • Continuing to provide support and professional growth opportunities for staff members.
  • Continuing to be transparent, open and honest with stakeholders through the district’s website, newsletter, social media and face-to-face interactions, meetings and events.
  • Continuing to maintain fiscal responsibility to ensure a stable financial environment.

Welcoming new staff to the District 88 family
On Aug. 14, District 88 welcomed the 2014-15 new staff members to the district. To see a list of the new staff members, go to https://dupage88.net/site/public/files/?item=1737

To help welcome the new staff members, the district hosted a breakfast with local village officials, politicians, first responders and service groups. About 20 community leaders from Addison, Lombard and Villa Park attended the breakfast.
