Willowbrook celebrates 8th Annual LM5K Family Run/Walk

On June 21, District 88 students, parents/guardians, staff members and community members put on their running shoes and joined the 8th Annual LM5K Family Run/Walk at Willowbrook.

The event takes place annually to remember Willowbrook alumna Lauren Kiefer, who was taken far too soon on Dec. 25, 2006. About 300 runners participated in the event, and nearly 200 volunteers and bystanders attended the race. The 2014 run/walk raised about $10,000, bringing this year’s grand total of money raised by the Lauren Kiefer Memorial Foundation Inc. to about $30,000.

The foundation provides funds for local families and nonprofit groups, including York Center Food Pantry and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The foundation also provides scholarships for Willowbrook seniors. This year’s scholarship recipients were Hayden Adams, Devin Childress, Olivia Domin, Perla Hernandez, Amy Kotilinek and Hannah Smith.
