Willowbrook hosts assembly to honor and celebrate Flag Football Team’s historic State Championship

On Nov. 10, Willowbrook hosted an assembly to honor and celebrate the Willowbrook Flag Football Team’s historic season, which includes winning the inaugural Chicago Bears Girls Flag State Championship on Oct. 29.

During the event:

  • Students and staff filled the gym and cheered as the team members were announced.

  • The Willowbrook Band performed to hype up the crowd.

  • Words of encouragement and congratulations were shared by Gustavo Silva, Chicago Bears Manager of Youth Football and Community Programs; Brandon Murphy, Willowbrook Athletic Director; and Dr. Daniel Krause, Willowbrook Principal.

  • Flag Football Coaches Nick Hildreth and Rachel Karos spoke about the significance of this historic season, and several members of the team shared their experiences and memories from the year.

  • A video created by Willowbrook senior Mason Eisner, which featured highlights from the team’s season, was displayed.

  • The Bear’s mascot, Staley Da Bear, joined the girls on stage and greeted fans.

  • Willowbrook math teacher and Co-Curricular Coordinator Ed Sullivan served as the emcee.

The Willowbrook Flag Football Team will now compete in Regionals on Nov. 13 in Ohio. The girls also will be recognized during the Dec. 18 Bears game (against the Philadelphia Eagles).
