The Mavica MVC-FD 71 digital camera if fun, very easy to use, and the pictures are copied directly on a 3 ½ floppy disk. The pictures can then be transferred to a computer program, printed on paper, or sent with an E-mail to a different destination.

RECORDING IMAGES

Insert a floppy disk into the FLOPPY DISK SLOT (located on the side of the camera) until it clicks. The notched corner of the disk should go first with the notch up.

To remove the FLOPPY DISK, press down on the "PUSH" button and slide the DISK EJECT button to the left. Both buttons are located on the bottom right side of the back of the camera.

On the bottom of the camera, is the switch to open the BATTERY COMPARTMENT COVER. First slide the switch to the side, then move the COVER outwards and it opens. (Follow the directions of the half arrow next to the switch.)

Slide the BATTERY into the BATTERY COMPARTMENT if it isn’t already there. The silver prong on the BATTERY top goes in first. The BATTERY fits only one way so check the grove on the BATTERY and match it to the grove inside the BATTERY COMPARTMENT. Close the COVER.

Press the POWER SWITCH down to turn on the power. When you are finished using the camera, you again press the POWER SWITCH down to shut the camera off.

Remove the LENS CAP from the LENS. The LENS captures the light so that the picture can be recorded. Directly on the outside of the LENS is the FOCUS RING which is used only when the camera is in manual focus.

With this switch, you can change from AUTOMATIC FOCUS to MANUAL FOCUS. With MANUAL FOCUS you use the FOCUS RING located on the outside of the LENS to manually focus the image (see above), however, it is usually easier to just leave this switch on AUTOMATIC FOCUS.

Move the PLAY/CAMERA switch to the right so that it is on CAMERA.

On the LCD SCREEN you can observe the image that will be recorded onto the floppy disk.

Use the ZOOM LEVER to zoom in or out.

When you are ready to take a picture, press the SHUTTER BUTTON completely down. Be sure to hold the camera steady as you do so. Release the SHUTTER BUTTON immediately. You can now move the camera. A notice will appear on the LCD screen that the picture is being recorded. Wait a few seconds until that notice disappears before you change any settings on the camera.

Number of Images per Floppy Disk

STANDARD about 30-40 images

FINE about 15-20 images

Using Flash

If you wish to use flash, be sure that this FLASH BUTTON is lit when the power is on. If it is not, simply press it in once. Press it again to stop the flash.

Using the CONTROL Button

When the power is on, the LCD screen has a menu of various functions shown on it. A function is a command that the camera is able to perform. By pressing the upper, lower, right, or left side of the CONTROL button (see picture) you can select a function. When an item is selected in the menu, the color of that item changes from blue to yellow. To execute the selected function, press the center of the CONTROL button. Check out the neat functions that this camera is capable of performing!

Checking Images on the LCD screen

After you have taken one or more pictures, you can see what they look like by playing them back on the LCD screen.

With the power on, switch the PLAY/CAMERA switch to the left. A notice will appear on the LCD screen. When that notice disappears, you will see the last picture taken with the camera.

If more than one picture is on the floppy disk, you can also view them. Use the CONTROL button to select the left facing arrow on the LCD screen, then press the middle of the CONTROL button. A notice again appears on the LCD screen and when it disappears, a new picture will be shown on the LCD screen. The CONTROL button can be used in this way to go back and forward between pictures.

Removing the Battery

To remove the BATTERY, open the BATTERY COMPARTMENT COVER, slide the "BATT" button found under the cover and the battery will pop out.

Charging the Battery Pack

In the picture, the BATTERY is to the left and the BATTERY CHARGER is to the right. Connect the power cord of the BATTERY CHARGER to a wall outlet. Position the BATTERY on the groves of the BATTERY CHARGER with the silver prong down and to the left. Now slide the BATTERY to the left until it clicks in place.

The orange charge light goes off when the BATTERY has a normal charge. To fully charge the BATTERY, let it continue to charge for about an hour after the orange light goes off.

Normal charge 150 minutes   Charge just until the CHARGE light goes off.
