DISTRICT 88's ACCEPTABLE USE REGULATIONS
Each time students log onto the net, they are required to agree to certain District 88's Acceptable Use Regulations. These regulations limit what students are allowed to do and also limits the District's liability for any misuse of the computers. Staff members are also bound to these regulations. They help to insure that students and staff use the computers responsibly and in a mature manner. School computers will not log on any student who does not agree to the following District Policy:
User Conduct and Responsibilities
District 88 provides technology access to support education. This access includes the Internet and a district network. The use of technology is a privilege. Users are expected to abide by all District regulations as outlined in the Student/Handbook Behavior Regulations. All users must conduct themselves as responsible individuals and socially responsible citizens. Regulations for acceptable use include, but are not limited to, the following:
Users will:
* Use appropriate language and avoid offensive, abusive, or inflammatory speech.
* Honor copyright laws and assume that any software that they did not create is copyrighted.
* Keep their personal address and/or phone number, or that of others confidential. (Note that e-mail is not guaranteed to be private.)
* Use the technology for legal and educational purposes only.
* Not use false or other people's names.
* Cite sources properly by attributing authorship to resources.
* Remain in authorized areas of the network and Internet.
* Receive authorization from the Technology Director before downloading files or programs.
* Be responsible for fees incurred by unauthorized use.
Misuse of technology access will result in disciplinary action as outlined in District handbooks that may include loss of access privileges. Illegal activities involving technology may also result in referral to law enforcement authorities.
District Responsibilities
The District 88 network is part of the curriculum, and not a public forum for general use. The District cannot be held liable for any information that may be lost, damaged, or unavailable due to technical or other difficulties. The District cannot be responsible for the accuracy or quality of information that is retrieved or sent using technology.
