Staff development
that improves the learning of all students organizes adults into
learning communities whose goals are aligned with those of the
school and district. District 88 views professional learning as an investment that will pay future
dividends in improved staff performance and student learning.
The delivery of staff development takes place in the form
of workshops, conferences, and lunch-and-learns. Teachers also
have the option of taking
ASCD courses online
to get Internal University credit for salary advancement.
Research-based texts and topics that the staff is currently
exploring:
-
Classroom Assessment for
Student Learning by Rick Stiggins and Jan Chappuis
-
Project CRISS
-
Understanding by Design
by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins
-
Differentiation of
Instruction for the Mixed-Ability Classroom by Carol
Ann Tomlinson
District 88
offers Internal University credit (1) for salary advancement
for courses that acquire 15 seat hours and are in areas of
need as identified by the district. Currently,
courses and workshops that focus on differentiation of
instruction, literacy strategies, standards-aligned
curriculum and assessment, cultural diversity, and student
academic and behavior interventions are offered for internal
university credit.
District 88 Staff
Development Committee
The District 88 Staff
Development Committee is comprised of members from both Addison
Trail and Willowbrook. They serve as a resource for all of the departments in
providing support and strategies to better meet
the needs of our students. Topics for staff development continue to
focus on best practices in assessment, planning for learning needs,
and instructional strategies that improve student achievement.
