During Reading Strategy
READ AND SAY SOMETHING
The
leader is the first to read a section (paragraph, half page, whole page).
If the classroom is confining, students can whisper-read the
article while the group members follow along with the written text.
Student, not feeling comfortable reading aloud in front of their
peers, can pass. However, all
students participate in oral discussion.
After
the leader has finished reading, the person directly to his/her left asks
a question or makes a comment related to the section read.
All
students must listen and participate by saying something.
Any person in the group can answer the question or further the
discussion.
The
role of the leader is to make sure the discussion remains focused within
the time frame of the lesson. The person to the right of the leader continues to read the
next section. Again, the
person on the right of the reader “says something.”
Continue the process until the reading is completed.
