Overview:
Individual readers usually have their own questions and ideas. As students read or listen, have them record questions about
material they do not understand. These
are authentic questions that come to mind during reading.
Steps:
1. As you read aloud, talk about questions that come to your
mind.
2. Explain that all good readers have questions when
they read.
3.
Ask
students to read a selection and come up with questions.
Accept every response.
4.
Write
some of their questions on the board and discuss possible answers.
5.
Ask
students to record in their journals or on a separate sheet of paper any
unanswered questions as they read.
6.
Demonstrate
the importance of student-generated questions by using them for
discussion.
