Strategy ADMIT
slips are brief comments written on index cards offered to the students as
they enter the classroom.
The purpose of the admit slip is to have students react to what
they are studying or to what’s happening in class.
Students are asked to respond to a question such as:
What is confusing you about . . .?
What problems did you have with your assignment?
What would you like to say about the lesson?
What do you like / dislike about the lesson?
What is the major conflict between . . .? The
slips are collected by the teacher and read aloud as a way of beginning
class discussion.
Admit slips offer a way for a student to receive guidance or
participate in a non-threatening way. (Gere, 1985)
